I Find No Peace by Sir Thomas Wyatt


Sir Thomas Wyatt
(1503 – 11 October 1542) [1] was a 16th- century English
ambassador and lyrical
poet.He is credited with introducing the sonnet into English.



Anne Boleyn (1501 – 19
May 1536) was Queen of England
from 1533 to 1536 as the
second wife of Henry VIII.




First Publication Date:- 1557 (Tottel's Miscellany)

Form: Petrarchan Sonnet ( In this poem the last two lines work as the concluding couplet.This is Wyatt's invention and he may be described as a predecessor to Shakespeare.With these two lines "I Find No Peace" may be consider as a deviation from the Petrarchan Sonnet"

Theme:- Wyatt has lost his mental peace after he has fallen in love with Anne Boleyn.

"I Find no peace,and all my war is done "

" I Find no peace"
»»» The poet has lost his mental peace as he fell violently in love with Anny Boleyn (Many commentators believe that he fell in love with Anne because of his Unhappy married life).

" and all my war is done "
»»» The poet just finished his war (mental conflict,doubt) according to Anne's love for him. He is damn sure that Anne loves him.

The poet become very anxious about his restless condition.

The proverb "Hope never dies" is applyed here properly. Though Wyatt knows Anne is King Henry VIII 's wife but he still can not help hoping a peaceful reconcilation with his beloved

" and freeze like ice"
»»» The thought of separation makes him very cold.
